PhotoShrink 2.0 Shrink & Upload on the Fly

Sometime back i created a tool to reduce the size of images called PhotoShrink.The main purpose of doing this was to cut down the size of images before emailing, uploading to Facebook,Picasa etc. You can read all about that in my previous post about PhotoShrink. Many of my friends found it very handy when uploading Photos to Facebook. ( thanks to the high MP cameras they make these days ;) ). Well it had close to 180 downloads in Source forge as well. The first improvement that came out for it was to add a progress bar to indicate the shrinking progress.(thanks poori for bringing it up). Since it’s the vacation time & all i thought of doing that improvement and adding some more color to PhotoShrink and creating the next version PhotoShrink 2.0

The main enhancement in this is now you can directly upload photos to Facebook and create an album as well.You can directly upload your shrunken images to Facebook with only one click and create an Album in Facebook. It’s not only for the images shrunken from PhotoShrink; you can use it as a photo uploader for facebook independently as well.
I know most of the people (including my self) hate the Facebook Java applet uploader which at the last moment of the uploading says “upload failed”. Hope you guys will find it useful as much as i did. Any suggestions , improvements error reports are all welcome.

As usual you will need to install the .NET Framework 3.5 in order to run this.

There is no installer just download the .zip folder extract and use it.You can download the binary from here.

I used the Facebook Developer Toolkit for from codeplex for the integration with Facebook. The toolkit is simply awesome and provides very easy to use wrappers for .NET from the Facebook API.

Hi guys, I've wanted to try out the Windows Live Writer for so long but it kept getting postponed day by day. Well finally here it is. I don’t know whether it would work but if you’re reading this well it works ;)

You can directly configure it to link with your blog and it even gets the colour scheme from your blog. You can do the usual stuff like adding images,posting links,adding video,spell check ,saving the draft etc etc. But what’s cool is you can set the labels for your posting as well. It’s really cool & i think you should try it if you haven’t used it.

PhotoShrink - Easy way to compress your images

Writing something after a very very long time. Well it's not going to be any kind of a thought or a story rather to Share a tool i created with you guys. I created this first for my use but even before i finished coding i found someone who needed this ;) . So i thought you guys also would find it useful.
As the name suggests what the tool does is very simple it reduces the size of your images. This is done by decreasing the pixels in the image by a given percentage. For me it comes in very handy when i need to upload a lot of pictures to Facebook. It takes a very long time upload the pictures since most of the cameras that we use today have very high Picture quality & high resolutions.But when we upload we don't need that much quality, hence taking so much time to upload large files is a waste of time. The alternative is reducing the quality of your picture.Most of the photo editing software's provide this feature, but the problem is you'll have to open each photo reduce quality & then save. Imagine doing this to like 50 photos you have :O
This is the part where PhotoShrink comes in to rescue.
All you have to do is
1) Put all the images you need to reduce quality in to one folder
2) Set the Reducing Percentage from the slider
3) Shrink !
well that's it.

You can set the Reducing Percentage from the slider.
Ex : Original Size 1000 x 500 set percentage to 20% then reduced size is 200 x 100

You can choose the input images folder and the output folder from the file browser

Currently PhotoShrink supports 9 widely used image extensions and will support more in the future. This is a very early release and still it might have some problems here & there but it get's the job done with ease.

Please feel free to give your comments & suggestions for improvements.

should you get utterly bored and have nothing and absolutely NOTHING else to do to write a blog post?? for me may be the answer is yes.i didn't write anything for like 3 months and here i am writing a blog post on the week i'm having my exams.it's 1:45 am now and it's Wednesday we're having the exam on Friday & i haven't even finished studying the first tutorial :D.
i checked mail in all my 3 email accounts every 5 minutes for like an hour (every time there were no new messages), then played mortal combat beating shinnok from quanchi,liu kang and raiden in the MasterII tower.after that wasted another 45 mins on facebook and finally i got bored with that as well so here i am writing this.how cool is that ??
Oh if you're wondering why cant' go and sleep, well i slept for over 14 hours 2 day.
i just loooooooooooooove exams.

Intelisense For jQuery In Visual Studio 2008

jQuery is one of the coolest things i came across in the past months. It's a neat javascript library that enables you to develop rich,interactive & fast dynamic websites very easily.
Since I'm helping one of my friends with his project these days i thought of using jQuery for that project. When i was playing around with the library the first thing that came to my mind was how brilliant it would be if we had Intelisense for jQuery as well (of course i would want intelisense when writing a document as well since visual studio had made it that much essential to life ;) ). After searching the web i came across this great post that explains the way to do this simply & cleary.
It has only 3 simple steps.
1. Install VS2008 servicepack 1
2. Install the patch that enables support for -vsdoc.js files
3. Download jQuery and the documentaion js file for visual studio.

REMEMBER the vsdoc file should have be prefixed as the same name as the .js file.
(ex: jquery-1.3.1.js and jquery-1.3.1-vsdoc.js ).
That's all. Then all you have to do is add a script reference to the jQuery js file and start coding.
You'll notice that now you have a very helpful Inetelisense for jQuery.

Another thing this is not only for jQuery you can do this to any of your external javascript files by just adding a additional -vsdoc file. How wonderfull it is to have an editor like Visual Studio.

It's been nearly 2 weeks after the concert, wanted to write this post just after the concert but was bit off track. Although it's like 2 weeks the wind still brings the "howling grimness".
It was absolutely great, the wasn't much crowd turnover may be because the venue is not familiar but the people who turned out surely had time of their life.
Although the venue is normally a clubbing place it was well casted in to a mosh pit.
Splendid job done by sudesh and his team with sound, I would say this had the best sounds from all the gigs held @ kandy.(sound balancing for a metal gig is never easy).
About the bands, well it started off like a mettalika tribute concert the two new bands performed magnificently thet were pretty tight for a upcoming band and really talented. One of the covered dance of the water by Kalmah it was totally out of the world.
Forsaken was perfect as always and we expect nothing less than perfect from them,Delain and his "heyyyaaa" surely has a insignia for them.
Everybody was so excited to see what Spectra Red would sound like but I think most of them were disappointed since the sounds got a bit screwed when they performed. I was really disappointed I couldn't hear buweneka's solo's.
Everybody was in shock when they saw Forlorn Hope not finishing off the show. Their performance is unexplainable it's a must see, RAW as HEll They are the best fucking black metal band in this country no doubt about that. It was just amazing to see "devil is calling" sung with a goat's head in hand. They stole the night again and left the crowd with terrible neck aches.
In lieu of fault was scheduled to finish the show but they couldn't perform that night due to a small problem so we had to finish the gig. With only one day of practice that was a big ask but i think we pulled off pretty well thanks to Ashan and Nigel.ThanXXX brothers for the support. It was great to perform live again after a year (with my favorite vocalist Dizziy ;) ).Used face paint this time & hope 2 keep that as a part in the future performances.
Some of the guys from colombo had a problem whether it was a goat's head oooh yes it was real, and i personally don't think there is any thing wrong with it, and it's not the first time we did this.
All in all it was a great show and a kind of very welcome get-together as well.
No matter what ever it is KANDY IS ALWAYS THE BEST.

Halfway through

June is here and that means the halfway mark of the year.The past months just passed without any significant events, as assumed it was a "go with the flow" routine.The exams just finished but still couldn't do the celebration event and the 'aftermath' ;). And about the exams well it was as usual guys who studied found it difficult the guys who didn't study also found it difficult.
But all in all if everything goes accordingly i would be a delighted fella by the end of this month.Been waiting for a long long time to do a recording of one of our tracks and well it just might be the time.But have lot of obstacles like to start off where to find "gods brother"(although they say malli i think it's deyyange ayya)(for tube lights i'm talking about money).
So all you generous people out there ahhh credit cards & cheques are also accepted but cash is recomended.Hope for the best.

2007 is about to end.WOW What an year it was a great year for me. Dawning the year with a stupid coursework & after a f***ed up 2006 never expected this year to kick this much.Only one disappointment we couldn't do a studio recording, but nevertheless was able to perform live & that was AWESOME. It was like after two years that we went on stage again (dying to do it again soon). KRM had a lot of gigs this year that was really nice to see it our brother bands performing. KRM is growing HAIL KRM. Everything in office also was pretty cool less stress & lot of opportunities. So all in all I would say 2007 was a great year. Don’t have any plans or hopes for 2008 right now it would be a “go with the flow” year I think. One thing I realized in this year is not to change what is already perfect if u do it screws up.

registerIT - a simple tool by me

Well guys,i have a little tool that might come in handy for people using products built from vb6.You know when ur using dll's within ur main exe u have 2 register the dll's.Normally what we do is type regsvr32 and drag drop the file and it's registered.This is cool if you have very little files but when there's lots of dll's it's $%#@# !.So my tool here will automate that process.You copy this file to the desired folder and run it.Give the extension of the files you want(ex - *.dll) to "Extension",give the command to "Prefix" (ex - regsvr32) and a switch if you need for "Postfix" (ex - /s)(switch for silent mode).That's all it'll generate a file "regit.bat" containing the commands as you gave it.Double click it and all files will be registerd.This can br used for many other commands as well for example if u give "regsvr32 -u" for Prefix you can use it to unregister.If you want to use it with multiple extensions change "Extension" and use it and it will add to the current regit.bat file.(so remember to delete regit.bat if you want a new instance).
Hope this will be use full all suggestions,comments insults anything & everythin is most wellcome.
btw this requires the 2.0 .net framework.
Try it your self Download exe.

AWSOME.That's the word.One of the best concerts i've ever been to.It really KICKED ASS.
Wow KRM is the best in country now.The variety we have @ KRM is not there in any other place.
This was long awaited.The Punk/Metal band which started the show,Genocide with their Nu Metal,SOD with the jazz/alternative touch really added variety to it.Forlorn Hope was Brilliant as always and ofcourse In Liu Of Fault is getting better by each show.Well i won't speak of whirlwind i personally don't like their music.KRM has no challenge what so ever now.March Of the GAYS would be the simplest example.Only one depression couldn't play @ this great gig,But our time will come.Hail Kandy, Hail KRM.

I couldn't post something before the concert, so this is really the aftermath. After a concert everybody has some common complains ; the sounds were not good, not enough volume on the monitors, too much feed back from speakers & all that but for me all that was not there this time.The sounds were pretty good. We didn't play with our full line had to leave out our drummer & the lead guitarist. That was really hard. But thanks to Forlorn Hope & raju we somehow managed to pull off. With only 2 hour practice with drums still it's hard to believe.To describe the concert in one word it was "BLACK" yes indeed underground black.Thanks a lot for the guys who came & everyone who supported us specially rasitha, forlorn hope & forsaken(thanks brothers).For all the bands who performed Raven 06 , Extension, Forsaken , In lieu of fault, Old Castle's Massacre & Forlorn Hope well done guys you put on a great show. It feels so good to do a post again after a very long time.
Exams are over & yes JUNE is here. (6)
If everything goes according to plan, by mid July the "Precious" will be created.
Well about the new two songs, it's so weird cuz we're not together when doing the composing .So it's very difficult to know whether the music brings out the content of the lyrics & whether it sounds good.
Even the riffs are quite different from the last materials it’s much blacker & darker.
Quite curious what the others would say about these new riffs.
I think the main reason for the change is I’ve been so much away from metal music for the last year or so & now it feels a bit distant. But all in all being with people who are not into rock or metal helped a lot to know what they dislike about rock & find the cure for it. J
To put it in short Heresy is very much live again & going for the Ace.

Are You Ready For "Orcas"?

When .net framework 3.0 was introduced the first problem i got was there wasn't a IDE for framework 3.0.Since Visual Studio 2005 was designed for 2.o we couldn't use the full functionality of framework 3.0.(Such as the WPF application coding)

But i think "Orcas"(still only code named) will solve all that problems & it'll be more powerful than visual studio 2005 as well.(It's listed abilities sure promises that)

All hopes high for the release of it soon.

Came Home, met couple of friends.

Once we were in the town it was just so real i mean nothing has changed.

Loud chats @ the bus stand,Plain tea from 'the muslim', ice cream from 'soya centre', a game of pool @ ' Q & Q' ,walking in the streets not knowing where we're going life has not changed a bit.The only problem is i can't stay in the place where i belong.But it's amazing even to stay a minute away from the 'fake' life in colombo.KANDY IS THE PLACE TO BE FOR EVER!!!

I think it's time to do some coding in grand style.Not for the sake 'i'm doing it because i have to ' but for 'i'm doing it because i wanna do it & i love doing it'.
